Drakeling

here's what drakes (a fire drake to be exact) look like when theyre within 5 months to 5 years old. at this age they are creatures driven almost purely by instinct, outsiders often mistake drakelings as house pets. while they do learn to talk at this age they will mostly growl, bark, chirp and purr. one way to identify the gender of a drakeling is by how they behave, males act more like puppies and the females like kittens. drakelings are born with their teeth and they open their eyes within the first hour of "hatching" one of the first things they do is begin hunting, mother drakes often keep small animals around for their childeren for just such a reason. theyre curious and playful as well, often play fighting with their siblings. drakelings are born in pairs, and their elements are based on their gender and their parents, if the father is a fire drake then he will have fire drake sons, if the mother is a water drake then she will have water drake daughters, there has rarely been an exception to this and hybrids are uncommon but possible .there has (hardly) never been a hybrid of conflicting elements like water and fire or earth and air. those born of such circumstances are often shunned as they possess the powers of both elements that are natural opposites and are considered abominations against nature. this has only happened once.
